Today's Washington Post reported on a nonprofit "charity" called Concurrent Technologies.

According to the CFO of the company, it got its nonprofit status because it "lessens the burden on governance".

The article, titled "A contractor, charity and magnet for federal earmarks" notes that the company started in 1988 and as a result of federal contracts for just about any type of work now employs 1500 and generates $250 million in sales.

Much of the article is focused on how the company has managed to grow because of its very close relationship with people on Capitol Hill.

I suppose one question of course is why indeed is Concurrent Tech a nonprofit?  job creation and wealth generation - sounds like a good for-profit.

Another is: what's up with this mission to "lessen the burden on government".

Well, not much wisdom today -- Concurrent just doesn't sound right -- or does it?  Perhaps Concurrent is the new "4th" sector.
