Saturday's New London Day (CT) front page featured a story titled "Lyme-Old Lyme Project is back on Track".

The article focused on the recent gift from a former vice chairman of Pfizer who donated $1.1 million to the school district "so it can build a new regulation-size track behind the high school".

Notwithstanding, $1.1 million is a generous gift to a school district, restricted or otherwise.  What catches my attention is that this gift comes following the public's own vote against a referendum of a $54 million high school renovation that included the track.

The school district has accepted the gift.  But, the public voted not to build the track (in voting no on the referendum).  However, with a bit of money, one citizen's vote is indeed greater than the voice of the whole.
