Herb and Marion Sandlers are philanthrocapitalists (so is Bill Gates for a reference point). And, according to the New York Times, they are not that happy about how nonprofits are being managed.
According to the Sandlers, Human Rights Watch is a nonprofit they believe meets their standards: "It was effective. It didn’t waste money. It issued meticulous reports that tracked its results. And it was run at the time by someone whom the Sandlers trust."
Are these the standards that all philanthropists should hold nonprofits to? That's for each of us to assess, although I would argue they are reasonable enough.

Thanks Readers!! The number of folks reading this blog has grown steadily. Unfortunetly, this blog host is not able to handle the traffic and I have moved my blog. Please check out (and bookmark) my new location http://www.nonprofitboardcrisis.typepad.com Thanks for helping to make this a success!! My mission: to change the world one nonprofit at a time. I fix broken nonprofits with a focus on resolving nonprofit board/exec relationships. I also help nonprofit boards and staff figure out where they want their organization to be in the future and focus on the four columns of a nonprofit: program, management and operations, governance and sustainability.
